Philippine scouts...someone even has a heavy old loop handle cleaning rod sticking out of his barrel. That's an anchor...to carry.
A lot of them bare feet!
I'll bet lots of them would have been just as happy to go in wearing shorts and a cartridge belt...and rifle. They just wanted revenge for the cruelty they suffered.
Looks like a couple of 03's in there
Is the guy in the back on the left wearing a Japanese uniform hat?
Doughty fighters all!
Probably the Philippine Guerillas had a habit of taking and wearing the uniform of dead Japanese soldiers they personally killed as a badge of Courage and Bravery. Of course the higher the rank of the dead Japanese soldier the greater the courage and bravery. After the US Forces landed back in the Philippines, they were ordered to remove the uniforms as they were being mistaken by the Allied Forces as Japanese. They were pretty brave S*B.s "American Guerilla in the Philippines" is an excellent read. I believe they even made a movie with Tyrone Power after WWII.
This book I have 1st Ed H/C also read it, if you wish grab a copy if you want a no holds barred insight into the depraved savagery of the Japanese in WWII.
There is also another title I have same 1st Ed H/C by the same author on the German atrocities in WWII, both books are real eye openers on just how low things got with these two combatants.
