Has anyone ever seen one of these or know of it being done? Conversion to single shot straight pull that is? is it even mechanically possible?

Disconnecting the gas system should do it?
If it was me doing it so as to make it so that it could never be returned to A or R fire, I'd remove the gas cylinder completely and machine out the threads in the body. Use the old gas cyl to manufacture a good copy of the original and PRESS FIT the new gas cyl into the body, as per the Mk2 gas cylinders. There, a solid gas cylinder pressed in and if you wanted to really impress the judge, drill into the gun body, just behind the blast shield and mig weld the new solid gas cyl to the main gun body.
Punch out the as block tapered pin and press the gas block off. Quite easy. Weld up, make good and assemble.
Would such a conversion be legal anywhere in the known universe. I can't see the word BOLT ACTION REN GUN featuring on a UK FAC any time soon. I recall tha total palava surrounding Cadet L98 SA80's that were MANUFACTURED as bolt actions. The Military police experts suggested that they knew better than the manufacturers....... But what I have suggested is exactly, in effect, what the L98 was!
There was a company in the UK that was looking into a straight pull Bren and I have not heard from them for years.
I must caste the cat among the pigeons again, and see what surfaces.
It seems to vary a bit. The old version which is hard to prove timewise is a cock and click that will manipulate but not strip. The new one has to be welded solid so no parts come off. Yet, we still see some that the mag comes off. They are SUPPOSED to be solid with no parts removeable.
Apparently in the UK, with a certain amount of re-engineering, they can be done, but I will turn that over to Peter now..
In the UK all that you can have is a deact, a deactivation, unless you have an appropriate FAC or you want to do some serious jail time.
Current spec EU/UK deacts are deactivated to quite a high spec of deactivation and all have a certificate to confirm that this has been done correctly.
