My 1903A4. It was a CMP lottery rifle from the late 1990's. I have both an M73B1 and a Lyman Alaskan for it. I leave the Alaskan on it so that I can take it to the range. I was advised to not fire the rifle with the Weaver on it because of how delicate the Weaver is.
I fire mine and have had zero trouble with the scope other than it sucks as a scope. What SN is yours? 2 groove? It looks nice, and if that isn't a fifty yard target, it certainly shoots well. Now you have me wanting to take mine out to the range again.

Where do we find the sunshade for the Lyman Alaskan?

:lol: That was a 100 yard target. It's a 2 groove 8-43 barrel and the SN is 3425xxx. It is an X-out 3 with the 4 added.Quote:

Jim are you shooting yours with the M73B1 on it? If so you may try a different scope. That thing may be rattling around inside, changing the POI every time you fire it. I'd throw an Alaskan on it and see what it does. My bet is it's the scope if it's an M73B1.

It was five out of the magazine in less than two minutes. The barrel was warm at the beginning. I fired five rounds at the 200 yard gong before I put it on paper. The five at the gong was fired in under a minute (5 hits).
I'm a lefty so I have to shoot Private Jackson style...:lol:

A sunshade for the objective lens will be more difficult. They were steel I suspect and I am not aware of any reproductions as yet.

my A4 has never been reparked but the stock had a rebuild mark on it so I went with a M84. I put a Alaskan on my 51 rebuild C I saved some bucks and I was told that the serial number was in the documented government contract range would be correct for a 1951 rebuild C

There were 29,964 of the M1903a4 produced. They do show up on the CMP auctions but sell for much higher prices and many are not complete.
