I just disassembled my 1916 MKIII Ross and I noticed a greenish/yellow coating under the wood. What is it? It comes off with a bronze brush and CLP. The bluing underneath looks great. Should I leave it?

If it looks like it might have been consistently applied, and some time ago, I would leave it as it may be factory grease. Bottom line in conservation is do as little as possible. We've all crossed that line in our enthusiasm at times, and some of us have regretted it later.
Nice collection! You did good. Hope to see a range report with some of them when you get a chance.
