L1A1 rifle telescope
Not sure whether this should be here or the equipment forum......
Does anoyone out in forumland have lurking in his box of bits a
SIGHT UNIT, 7.62mm Rifle, Mk1? It consists of a
TELESCOPE, Straight, sighting No74 Mk1 with a part number V5/1240-99-960-7269 probably engraved on the sight tube. The tube is about 8" long and about 1" dia.with a range and deflection drum halfway down on the top and left side. Mounted/clamped to a:
BRACKET which consists of a cover adapted to take the sight. The bracket part of the cover is very similar to the cover and base part of the old night sight cover and an:
EYEGUARD, detachable, No35 Mk1.
Came in a tight weave webbing pouch with shoulder strap
Provisionally authorised but never issued during the mid 60's with a view to selected L1A1's replacing the No4T following the fated L8 trials
Only ever seen one in my life, here at Warminster. Anyone else got one?

FN C1A1 Riflescope
Hi Peter: I have a riflescope that approximates your description: it was originally mounted on a Canadian FAL rifle. It was manufactured in Germany by "Dr. Wohler." It has the ranging and windage drums set in metric distances. It has a recticle similar to the No. 32 telescope. Someone stripped my scope to clean the lenses and reinstalled the recticle upside-down, although the lenses are very clean! It also has a rubber eyecup and anti-glare shield. There is no UK or Nato information plate on the body and the serial number stencilled on the side of the telescope is the original rifle serial number. No mounting hardware came with the telescope. I have seen similar 'scope descriptions on occaision in "Shotgun News." and in the "Canadian Access to Firearms" periodicals.

Lets see a picture and I'll compare it. The UK ones were made in the 60's by RJ Beck of London. Regards
