First production 1903 in 30-06 caliber

This rifle came out of a estate sale back in the late 90's, belonged to a gunsmith. my friend bought it for me. Not much interest around being a low number receiver. I got it because I notice all the original parts were still on the rifle.

The stock has the original CCV cartouche and is without stock bolts and inletted only for the early open bottom rear sight base

The hand guard without clips and groove, the rear sight peep not marked. Has the early open
bottom rear sight base.

Nothing converted from the 30-03 series, original 30-06 production

If not mistaken that SN is past the rod bayonet era but squarely in the Model 1903/'05 era, per Brophy. Which means it was originally chambered in .30-03.

I defer to the experts however.

I would agree - it started out as a 1903/05 (i.e. a 30-03 but with the later characteristics) I don't believe "original" 30-06 M1903s came out until the ca. 300,000.
