Entrenching tool cover
My son in law got one of these carriers with a taiwan shovel a few weeks ago and gave it to me as he didn't need the cover. I'm trying to ID it and from the looks it appears to be a combination of US and German design which leads me to believe it is post war German manufacture. Some online sites also seem to confirm this but I'm not positive that's what it is and what shovel would go in it. A US shovel or a German shovel. It has the US style brass hangers on the back and is a mix of canvas and leather.

It does look like something the Germans would have made.

Looking on eBay, the cover does look similar to some of the German shovel covers listed but also slightly different. I wonder if it is an "economy" cover, made by the Germans at the end of the war to use less leather or a cover made post WW2 by another country, such as Russia/Eastern European country, to go with captured German shovels? Perhaps a large number of shovels were captured at a depot with no cover or perhaps the original German covers deteriorated and needed replacing?
