I should also point out that in certain reserve and National Guard installations it was common practice to store the M1 rifle with the firing pins removed, on
the Model 1911A1 pistol the magazine catch was removed and on M1 carbines, the bolt was removed.
These actions were a result of gangsters looting and stealing weapons from armories during the 1920's and 1930's
Clyde always had a few Browning BAR's and a special one that he cut the barrel short and cut a few inches off the butt stock which were all from the military
