I know that years ago the M16 tool (this is the second type in my photo) would not fit the duckbill or very first type flash hider. The distance between the prongs is smaller on the duckbill while all of the standard tapered three prong hidersAttachment 102613Attachment 102612 appear to have a larger distance between the prongs.
I found an old photo that shows the early flash hiders, as I stated above the second issue M16 tool will not fit the prongs on the early duckbillAttachment 102626
I forgot that I have one of these tools, seeing your pics reminded me and reminded me of a question I’ve never had answered. - do you have any idea what the shallow “v” in the handle is for ? And what the two cut-outs are for? I can’t imagine they’re just for decoration, being military issue, so there must have been a use at the time?
The shallow "v" on top supports the open prong flash hider for removal or installation, cut out on left side is for the birdcage flash hider and square hole in center is for
torque wrench and I forgot what the cut-out on the right is for ?
