I think RRPG is referring to the projectiles not the round when he says that Ball and tracer projectiles are legal, which he is correct. A complete round is classed as live under section one or five (depending on projectile type) when it has a projectile, charge and primer. You can legally purchase and own FMJ projectiles without license however you would need a section 1 for frangible projectiles or a section 5 for armour piercing projectiles the same as the complete round. You can purchase an armour piercing round if the armour piercing component has been removed i.e. Boys projectile sans tungston core freely enough as it leaves the FMJ in place however I’ve never heard anything of how the CPS would view this. I assume they are content that as the core has been removed it is no longer classed as AP, however we know how attitudes change and assumption makes an *** out of you and me.
I've always found the fact that shotgun cartridges are not licenced a real peculiarity of our licencing law.
The vast majority of firearms related crime in the UK is shotgun related after all.
When you consider that when knuckles and big Verne decide to rob a bank with a shooter, it will be a sawn off shotgun they reach for every time!
Stop trying to apply logic to UK Firearms Law..
I'm sure you have been warned before about this...
