How was the No. 4 Mk. I (T) sniper sling swivel used?

OK, I found Capt. Laidler's article on how to make that special swivel that the sniper rifles had just ahead of the magazine.

But how / what kind of sling was actually used through that, and how was it used? Anybody got photos? I've poked around on the blessed Interwebs, but of all the photos I see of the type in action, not a single one shows a sling threaded through that -- all use the forward swivel. Did it serve any purpose?

I looked through the latest edition of the Skennerton book and don't see any mention of it. (I don't have any of the other standard references -- yet).

Essentially, as shown here - though it's more elegant if the sling is mounted with a half-twist so it can run flat from arm to swivel. (Hat obscuring aperture is optional.:nono:)

The half twist has to be to the left for Rt handed shooters and twist it to the Rt for Lefties you'll know if you get it wrong as the edge of the sling will press painfully across the back of your hand.

Thanks. That makes perfect sense, given the rifle's two-piece stock.

It looks like actual snipers in the field just dealt with having an M1907 sling in the conventional configuration.

Most civilian users purchased a wider sling from Parker-Hale like this:

There were several varieties of these. Some were made from converted Lewis Gun slings. Similar ones are still available, though made from nylon and plastic these days.
