No. 2 MKIII? Pattern 14?

Hello all,

Came across this rifle in my local shop. Was brought in from an old collectors estate. The Pattern 14 rifles seem to be quite a complex path to navigate so was hoping someone had some insights into the rifle. There are all sorts of markings on it that I've tried to include. The butt has No. 3 MK 2 carved into it? I understand it these were upgraded for use on the home front in the second world war? It's listed for $895 so just wanted to touch base and see whether or not that's a decent price for such a rifle and whether or not any of you have some more information on the history of it. Looks to be all matching. Definitely a Winchester Stock. Very low serial number. condition appears to be excellent. I can't comment on the mark on the butt "No3 MK II". Price is very good. Ron (Canada). If in Canada this would be headed to a new home!

If I'm not mistaken that rifle has an European firing proof? Not sure on the serial on the bolt handle since there are file markings around it, could well be (re?)applied. Also the whole rifle has been refinished, and there are several rust pittings visible below that new finish. Originally the rear sight ladder would need to carry the rifle serial on top on the bottom side - make sure to check. The stock is a replacement stock, if I'm not mistaken one of these from Weedon Arsenal. That one had not been refinished.

Can't speak of your local prices, but I would not necessarily agree with others. While it surely is not overpriced, on the other hand I'm not sure if it would really be worth the asking price, given the condition it is in.

It's got British commercial proof marks, and the NOT ENGLISH MAKE mark.

In other words the stock came from a Pattern of 1917 rifle, these rifles did not have a volley sight.

No, it's a newly-made replacement, with the same grasping grooves of unequal length (unlike the M1917 stock)
