Scabbard looks good, bayonet looks brand new. I understand the reason for the question, can't answer it. I would question the condition.
I was thinking a refurbished original but difficult to tell especially when the entire item is not pictured.
As for original or not, it looks exactly like the one I had back in the '80s so I can't be sure. Here's one from Oldsmithy.com that's a bit different but markings don't seem to jump out at you. USA
As for the choice of bayonets, the recoiling barrel is the main factor in the spike bayonet. The heavier knife types affected recoiling and therefore function. It's all documented if one were to look. I had them to compare side by side with M1 rifles and would never, as an infantryman...choose a Johnstone rifle.
