39TH Separation Company, rifle no. 87????. Some of the troops in the Spanish-American war never saw service other than spending time in camps. Those that did see service spent time in camps state side after the war was over. My home town ( Knoxville, TN ) was host to Camp Poland.
New York Militia 39th. separate company was stationed at the Watertown Armory ,190 Arsenal street, Watertown New York. Google separate companies New York militia for a explination of how the companies drilled and were combined in cases where the militia was called to service. Hope this helps.
