We need that guy today....
It's a brilliant Churchil quote; but actually from 10th November 1942; after the 8th Armies expulsion of the Afrika Corps from North Africa.
Churchill always knew what to say for any occasion or eventuality.
'Yes, Madam, I am drunk, but in the morning I shall be sober and you will still be ugly.'
or.............................. "Careless talk costs wives"
I have a reasonable bit on Churchill I should take the time to read up more on him as I have his early life in H/C as well as his WWII 6 vol H/C along with a couple of soft covers covering his war time speeches. Of the ones I've watched the one he delivered to congress sticks in my mind as one of his greatest along with honouring the WWII fighter pilots after the Battle of Britain.
Cinders,
Clearly two sides to Churchill.
IMHO caused a lot of unecessary Commonwealth issues after the war, India/Palestine to name just two, but read an independent story, not his autobiography for a clearer picture of the man!!
He certainly was the product of his time and of his social class.
But what a clear, sharp mind! And what attitude he had.
A guy like him would be tried and thrown out of politics within a matter of milliseconds nowadays... Even if he were not racist anymore, just because he would say what he thinks, without edulcorating it.
I'd love to have someone like him to refer to... But have to make do with the ants we have here and now.
So...we talk milsurps and not politics.:D
