I picked this rifle up in a trade years ago. When shot, it functioned very well. That’s been many years ago. Question is: what kind is it? What do I look for to nail it down? I applied the green hardcoat.

What markings has it got?
I'm certainly not an expert on Fals, but, looks to be a metric mix, STG58 'style' combined flash hider and grenade launcher, not slotted at the muzzle though....
The rest looks to be based on a G1, with the exception of a Para Fal folding stock rear sight unit and an Inch pattern folding charging handle.
The receiver will be US compliant, lacking the automatic sear. Its US makers name should be on there....
The TMH should be original, with a manufacturer serial number.
Yes, it looks like an STG 58 or knock off. Retro that is. They were a nice rifle. Some had walnut butt and some black. It's not quite a G1 because the rear sight is different to what I would expect.
I sure it is a parts gun assembled by an Fn-FAL expert in my local area. It has a Hess receiver which I was told were junk due to machining problems. The guy must know what he’s doing as it ran like sewing machine and functioned as it should. I am curious to to what model it is suppose to look like. Thanks
Edit- deleted my question regarding maker as OP answered my question--
I had one years ago that was as new...rang like a bell when you dropped the open bolt closed, just beautiful steel in it.
