My BSA 4T has (in my eyes) a very poor fitted rear mount, however the rifle was previously owned by a guy who shoots at the same club as Peter Laidler, Peter has inspected it and declared it 'Pukka', and nothing to be concerned about.

I don't see it leaving Messrs Holland & Holland like that. Perhaps it's a genuine rifle that got stripped at some point & required the fitting of a replacement rear pad (out of military service). That would be quite feasible.
I was thinking along similar lines, PL checked it over for me before my purchase (I bought it unseen except for photos) and he made no comment on it so I took it as being 'acceptable'.
It 'works as it should' just looks a bit ugly.
It is an RAF issue 4T and was last serviced at '34 Base Workshops Catterick' September '68
