88/98/05 Ersatz Bayonet
Hi all,
Felt I would share a interesting bayonet I recently acquired. It is a 88/98/05 Ersatz Bayonet. I found on I believe the Old-Smithy website which is very close to it, so I felt I would share and maybe learn more about it.

its been shortened by the Turks unfortunately as the hilt is one of the less common ones.

To think how common they were about 40 years ago and now there are none...

Roughly how long would it have been originally? Overall even though it is a Ersatz bayonet, I still think it is pretty decent quality (in terms of function, its obviously rough, but not as rough as some other bayonets I have seen)

German bayonets of these types were typically about 12 inches. The Turks shortened the blades to 10 inches.
I wouldn't turn it down if I found it. Blasted Turks cut down almost all of these so they remain collectible. It's just that the uncut ones command a pretty good premium.

Personally I am pretty happy with it I was looking for something to mount on my 3 Gewehr 88s and this fit the bill (particularly for my Turkish owned 88/05). Bayonet collecting is one of those things I have fallen a bit behind in, just not as much availability, and it is hard to swallow paying as much or very close to what a rifle costs for the bayonet.
