New guy with a new 1917 sporter
Gentlemen:
New member w/ a REALLY nice looking sporter 1917.
Was looking for a 1903A3 sporter to use as a base to build a T Model replica and went into my favorite dealer w/no luck on the 03A3. BUT there appeared a pair of 1917 Enfields. An Eddystone and a Remington. Remington followed me home.
It has an after market barrel marked Cal 30 06 R. F. (I think as the R is faint) Wood Artesia New Mexico and may be a 2 groove. Bore is bright. Anyone heard of Mr. Wood?
Stock is aftermarket and is well fitted but have not figured out the mfg yet. Will shoot and glass bed if required. Recoil pad will need to be replaced.
There is some surface rust on the barrel that I can safely correct.
The 1917 hump has been removed and the floor plate is an after market with an elongated diamond containing the initials JBR which I assume are the original owners initials. Correct me if I am wrong.
The rear sight and ears are gone and it looks like professional work. Front sight is something I have never seen before. The base wraps around the barrel.
It has a Bushnell Banner 3-9 scope that is clear w/no bubbles, but it will have to go as I need a Redfield or Lyman long slide receiver sight that is correct for the period and repeats. Any ideas on market value and where I could find one? 65 markings on the slide would be good.
Most of the blue is gone except on the barrel.
Nope, have no desire to restore to original military configuration as the work is really good and I need a cast boolit shooter for 600 yd 1 minute groups. Yea right. :o)
Paid $250 + tax.
Cheers
