Double serial number
I just bought an underwood m1 carbine at a gunshow. Near as I can tell, it's a legit surplus rifle. I do however have a question. I have the type 1 sight on it and the manufacturer and sn are under that sight. I thought if they weren't readable, the sn had to be stamped in front of the sight. Mine is stamped further back on the reciever. Itsactually partially on the bevel. Any ideas as to why? Also any suggestions on where to buy some ammo and mags?

Welcome,
Can you post some pictures showing the detail around your sight, especially on top of the Dovetails ?

Hey,
Is that the My Pillow Man on tv ?
Your Carbine has had a Type II or Type III rear Adj sight on it at one time.
Appears they just stamped the Serial # below to be visible, instead of following 'The Book' which called for it to be placed where you said... on the front.
Wouldn't be the 1st time the rules weren't followed.
For mags they can be found on Epay described as 10 rounder...... but you can squeeze 5 more in there.
Some are buying and many liking the Korean made new mags... listed on GB, Epay and other outlets.
I forget the markings or maker name of the Korean ones.
Someone will tell us.
Ammo, Powder, primers are hard to find right now.
May not get a whole lot better for quite a while.

Thank you. Whomever staked the site did a terrible job of staking and I can slide it in and out of dovetails easily

Some have used small Aluminum, brass or copper shims to get them to hold.
A drop of LocTite can help also.
Others may share their methods.
From the looks of it, I wouldn't punch any more stake marks.
You get it apart feel free to show us more pictures...... It's Required for any more answers
