For the draws, we were TAUGHT to use just plain upright at the rear of the block which was glued in place. The grain also ran with the grain of the fore-end. HOWEVER, in practice at our big Base workshops where we got taught the way life really happened after being apprentices, we were taught to angle the grain of the patch to coincide with the angle of the draws for added durability
