Hello Milsurp Friends,
I have a stripped 1896 Krag receiver that I would like to do something with. A Clean Canvas, as it were. Could become anything.
It's serial is 55629
Could someone provide of there is any SRS info about this one?
Thanks!

Krag number 55629 is not listed in SRS data contained in the Appendix of Mallory's book, "The Krag Rifle Story", second edition.
A rifle's number being close to numbers found in official documentation means little, (and suggests a different issue or fate).
Jason's number not being found, pretty much guarantees, it was not in the group of Krags that went to the 20th Kansas Vol. Inf.
Well, at least I don;t have to worry about using some historic receiver to build something out of it's character.
Thank you for checking.
The Krag (and its cartridge) makes a fine sporter rifle. I've seen many ranging from good to bad to worse. I was lucky enough to snag one of the finest I've ever seen off of GunBroker. I posted about it in this thread...maybe it will give you some inspiration!
