Is this a WRA buttplate?

Although it appears that there is a prominent border it looks like a Springfield to me. This only because the Winchesters I've seen didn't have the partial sqares around the screw holes.

It does not have the 2S on the back but all other indicators show it to be a WRA butt plate. The unique checkering pattern is seen on all WRA butt plates. The Springfield pattern was very different, but a few SA rifles did show up with the WRA type pattern right around the 2.9 mil series. Bill is right about the little squares around the screw holes. They are not that prominant on most WRA butt plates, and some do not show them at all, but I have seen a couple of other WRA butt plates with the squares and also the 2S stamp. My best guess is Winchester

2S does not mean only Winchester and many Winchesters did not have any markings. The lower hole will be shifted and counter sunk when you drop the screw in.

I have allot of research in the 2S plate and you will see it on GHS amd EMcF period correct untouched rifles.

The problem is people change them out due to it being in print before a bit more research had come out so they swap these plates out when they should not. This is a perfect case of why things should be left alone when you find a correct rifle and think only the butt plate is wrong. Rick B

I will have to go with RickB on this one. My Feb. '43 SA EMcF has the 2S marked buttplate.

I'm far from an expert, especially when it comes to WRA rifles, but looking at the width of the border and the little hump area around the hinge, it doesn't look right. Looks more like a nice SA to me but I could be wrong.

In my experience, WRA butt plates have the lower screw hole on the face of the plate shifted slightly to the left, as this one indicates.

This one came off a CMP stock, from my WIN-13, with RA, and second P, uncircled..I figured it was a late war WRA..if its the original stock..its got an original circled P, and a faded WRA/GHD..the RA is at the bottom of the stock, hard to see....I replaced this stock on my WIN-13, with that stock from my 1944 WRA...
