New description of carbine
Winchester M1 Carbine-Serial #1088xxx (April/1943). RECEIVER is a type 4(recoil spring is inserted in a removable tube). It has what remains of the original finish. No rust. Good condition. The RECOIL PLATE has a punch mark which was typical to Winchester. REAR SIGHT is a Winchester milled style with a logo of a shield with an ‘H’. The name “Winchester” is hidden by the Rear Sight(as is part of the serial number). The BOLT is the late style (round) with a ’D’ stamp. This bolt is a new replacement. The BARREL looks like to could be original to the receiver. The bore is bright and clean. The portion not covered by the stock definitely shows that it served its time as it was intended to do. That area has been touched-up some, but is well done. It is stamped in the appropriate area with a ’W’. The headspace is excellent. The Muzzle Wear (MW) is an impressive 1.0 . OPERATING SLIDE is stamped D-7161843-7 HSA. The finish is excellent. Lugs are sharp. Like new. FRONT SIGHT is stamped with an ’EU” (Underwood). The BAYONET LUG is of the late style(Type 3). TRIGGER HOUSING ASSEMBLEY has a Winchester housing with a ’W’ and an ’o’, trigger is stamped ’RIA’(Rock Island Arsenal), hammer is stamped ’W’, safety is the late, flip handle style, magazine catch is M2 style (enhanced to prevent 30-rd magazines from freely dropping out of chamber) and is stamped ‘ M ‘. The magazine is stamped ’AI” on the edge. STOCK is the low-wood M2 style. The sling opening is the oval-cut style. There is an ‘IO’ in the sling well, ‘P’ on the pistol grip, and an ‘RIA-1’ on the bottom of grip. The HAND GUARD is stamped ‘RSG’ and is a good color match to the stock. A green cotton-web sling, oiler, and 10-rd magazine are included in this sale.
I was able to get pictures of the carbine, and the one that shows the new black bolt which he said stamped with a D on right lug.
The receiver is Winchester and also the barrel but not the stock and has had the rebuilds at some time ( no rebuild marks on left side )
I know I bug you guys a lot but you have so much knowledge.
Thanks
Dick
