What do you all think a reasonable retail price would be for a Type 38 carbine... I think it is a Series 4 Nagoya, serial number matching bayonet lug but not matching the bolt, no apparent rust except for a little on the cleaning rod, metal looks very good, stock looks very good, bore has a bit of frosting but the rifling is good, has a dust cover but the mum is ground off. A nice looking rifle but I want to make a reasonable offer. Thanks in advance!

More pictures would be a big help since there are some real experts on here who can tell you things such as is the stock sanded, does it have the correct barrel bands and sights, etc. Is the stock cut down or sporterized? You will vet some great advice and maybe save some money by posting some more pictures. Hope that helps!Quote:

Type 38 numbers are not related to the serial number on the side of the receiver. If you remove the action from the stock, you will find a letter with a 1 to 3-digit assembly number on the bottom of the receiver. That number is also found on the following parts:
Upper wrist tang
Lower wrist tang
Magazine box
Trigger
Stock (inside)
Handguard (inside)
Dust cover
Floorplate
Bolt
Safety (knob on back end of the bolt)
Extractor
Striker
Rear sight
Bolt stop catch release
Bayonet lug

As for a value, I agree with the earlier post reference the need for more pictures. Also, does the rifle have an original or reproduction cleaning rod (original has a tapered catch while the reproductions have a more cylindrical catch)? Arisakas are strange in that a "complete" rifle is often cheaper to purchase than if you tried to buy the parts and build one.
Ground mum I'd say between $300-$400 depending on other factors. Wasn't long ago you could get them for $100 less but as with everything else, they are going up. The one photo doesn't really help in valuation much.
