Has anyone encountered an 'Ishy' screw in a Long Branch No. 4? Have just acquired a very nice 1943 FTR'D IN 1953 LB , and the darn screw is right there! First time I've seen one in a LB.

As many of us, myself included, have learned here that screw was not only put in by Indians. And yes, I have seen them on Long Branch rifles before.
Just take the screw out and plug the hole as per a previous thread. Use a matching wood and match the grain and after a dose of linsed and a week of use, you'll never notice where it was
Learn something new everyday, don't we? Thanks!
Have one on my '44 LongBranch. Had the nastiest, dark varnish finish on it. Stripped it down with citri-clean, applied some furniture wax and now she looks beautiful.
