New PH 1200TX
Hello all,
I picked up a 1200TX with the intention of building up a M82 type clone. It has a massive aftermarket barrel in 7.62. The barrel is 1.2355" at the muzzle. I have a NOS PH heavy barrel squirreled away for the build. I need to pull it out and see if it is right for the build as I haven't seen it in a few years.
Also, the safety has been snapped off right at the stock line. I have a new replacement on order and looks like I will have to drive a pin out of the trigger mechanism that holds the safety in place. The pin appears to have been peened in the middle to spread it out to hold the safety on.
I couple of quick questions:
- Serial is R34297, so approximately what would be the year of manufacture?
- Would an M81 cadet stock have the correct profile for the M82? I know that the cadet is in single shot configuration and would have to been inlet and fit for the appropriate trigger guard but it has the stock spacers already in place and it looks the part.
- The rear scope base holes are a larger diameter than the front scope base holes. Are the BA22 and BA28 PH scope bases the appropriate bases for this rifle?
Thanks all in advance for the help.

1. Parker Hale serial numbers are random used on sporters, 1200TX, C3's and some repurposed by Roger Hale from the C3a1 conversion. Assuming this is a 1st time issued serial number it's most likely 1975 or 76. Barrels were dated not the actions. Serial number is in correct series for the Canadian C3. It's more than suitable for a M82 conversion. Good find!
2. Trigger safety repair. You need to remove the large head rivet and replace it. I've done quite a few repairs and have never been successful at saving the rivet. Carefully compress the peened end to rivet shaft diameter and maybe you will get lucky. Do not attempt to drive out as is ...it cause more damage to the trigger housing.
3. Good you have an original barrel. The current barrel could also be profiled and recoloured as it's already headspaced.I'd shoot for accuracy before doing anything with the current barrel.
4. M81 stock could be used however as you've stated it would need inletted for the m81 triggerguard assembly. Handstop rail would be totally wrong. Seen somebody in the USA advertising M82 stock recently. Some where in the $300 range?
5. You receiver is drilled and tapped for 1200TX, M82, C3. A22/A28 use 6-48 screws and set up for sporters. Front will work; rear need holes modified. Generally modify base to the #10 diameter, counterbore and turn the allen head screw down ....not a lot of meat there. Best to find the correct steel bases (pricey).
Post a couple pic's of what you have...it will confirm my opinion

Lee Enfield,
Thank you for the links to the used stocks. I had no idea there were any originals out there floating around. I will also check for the rails and keep an eye out for the screws.

Not much else to say its pretty much encapsulated in Ron's piece.......... numbering was all over the place when it comes to 1200's and M82's sadly.

Brian,
I went through the whole list on R prefixes but sadly nothing close to yours. Was it imported to Y Guns by chance, because I have a whole row of 1200's from 1989 sold to them, but whoever documented them, did not put any serial numbers down except R

Hi Gil,
Thank you for checking the serial number in your database. The rifle was imported by MT Guns in West Virginia.
