I have a Enfield that my father had picked up when I was a kid (52 now) and don't know much of anything about it. Haven't seen any pictures of one with same markings as mine so figured y'all would be a great place to ask. I'm sure it's been asked a lot on here and I appreciate the help.

It is a nice example of a sporterised Lee Enfield "Short Lee Enfield" Mark 1** (which means it is a Mk1 which has had two updates, a star for each modification) It was manufactured at the Enfield factory (near London) in 190? and is a IP (India pattern)Quote:

Some time later (most likely in the USA) it was sporterised by cutting down the woodwork. The pictures don't show the end of the barrel so we don't know if it has been cut-down.
That rifle has an interesting history-not many IP's around. If the barrel has not been cut and the bore is in reasonable condition, I think it would be a good candidate for restoration. And the safety is missing.
