I've seen completely different markings for Third Reich period rifles, so I'm thinking this is probably Weimar.
Is that a 'D R' over a wreath?
Yes, it is. I probably should have flipped the pic.
Yes, it's the emblem of the Deutsche Reichsbahn. DR over a winged wheel (not a wreath)
See Wacker & Görtz "Handbuch Deutscher Waffenstempel", P310, bottom row, center, on a Walther M/4 pistol.
Thanks, Pat.
How's the SVT project coming along?
Just curious. As we don't see this type of 'brand' into the wood very often on Imperial German guns (most often seen with stamps into the metal, unit marks, police, etc), would this be a Weimar period brand into the stock wood?
I believe this is the case. As I understand it, the Reichsbahn was established about 1920. By the time of the Third Reich, the stock brand had changed in style, so it should fit into the Weimar period.
Thanks.
I have an EWB marked Gew98. The Einwohnerwehr Bayern (EWB) of Bavaria was a short-lived paramilitary style home guard in Germany following WWI. It was formed under the Reishswehr in late 1919 to quell post war insurgencies (communist), and was demobilized in early 1921, as its organization was found to be in violation of the Treaty of Versailles.
The mark is also burned into the wood like your Deutsche Reichsbahn brand. Interesting guns with interesting marks, and from interesting times.

PM sent to Low & Slow - the SVT40 is progressing, but not yet ready for the general public!
