New M14 rifles and Ridgeways
If those are Marines , why are they wearing U S Army Fatigues?

I see that the caption has been corrected. I wonder why they are handling those firearms with the actions closed. I would think that the bolts should be locked back with the safety engaged.
The obviously posed image suggests that the rifles were being issued for the first time, and the rifles are early production with the fluted hand guards. The middle rifle has the selective fire switch.
I am grateful I came in after the Ridgeway fatigue cap was history as it was IMHO about as dysfunctional as it could possibly be.
Some armor units wore the Ridgeway backwards in the field and had the unit crest on the back !
