Remington Rolling Block rifles
I came across these two photos of Remington rolling block rifles on another gun forum, the new owner found these two Remington rifles at an house sale. What caught my eye was the lack of a normal trigger and trigger guard on the second Remington rifle.
Apparently the Remington without the normal trigger and trigger guard must have been designed for shooting with the shooter in a prone position on his back. The forward part of the barrel extending just beyond his feet, of course you have to elevate your head and neck.
This type of long range shooting was very popular in the 1870-1890 period

Remington rolling block rifles
I do not know the weight of the heavy barreled Remington rolling block in the photos as they are not my rifles. Most of the heavy barreled "Buffalo" or target rifles will weight around 10 to 12 pounds. I have a photo of a Remington rolling block that I built-up years ago from a action, caliber is 45-70 and I made the tang sight. Almost all shooting was blackpowder. Total weight of my rifle was 11.3 lbsAttachment 99337
