Looks like it was dropped or whacked with something.
Looks more like an indentation than a stamp to me, but I am no expert by any means
spire,
Welcome to the forum.
I'd agree the stock has just been bumped or scrapped on something.
I often think of the Butt plate as the Bump Plate.
Can you tell us more about the Carbine you have there ?
Pictures always welcomed.
Thank you but it can not be the stock that has just been bumped because i see this stamp on some m1 on sales here (France). It is a "Y" or "7".
What do you think about this m1 ?
Barrel stamped general motors 6-44
magazine stamped AI
Stock stamped OI
All parts are Inland
Oiler stamped IS
Original WW2 C-tip sling
Best regards

We may have some members from France that may recognize that marking. I've dealt with a Ebay seller quite a bit that uses the seller name nenel3.
I've messaged with him a few times and he is very familiar with carbine there and overall carbine knowledge. I believe he lists items on European or French sites.
I'll look for his mailing address, I believe I still have the last package he sent me a few months ago that I haven't opened yet. It was a package of 10 extra m1 carbine bolt tool Pawls.
I remember his first name is Andre'.
While I look for his information, I have a question for you...
Is it just the picture or does your Trigger housing color look like a Plum color ?
I ask because we've seen parts re-finished over seas that have that type of color tone.
Also couldn't see your serial number... but appears to be a Inland? Possibly a 5,1 mil to 5,3 mil with a 6-44 Inland barrel?
Guys goes crazy over here for those Type II barrel bands.
Be back if I can find Andre's contact info.
Looks like an original with an Augusta Arsenal check and test stamp. The carbine may have been refinished; hence the purplish cast to the trigger housing. Very nice. Is the serial number in the 5 million range?
Here is Andre'. We know as the seller nenel3.
Known as militaria-collectors
His listings on a site called NATURABUY........ Militaria-collectors
Web page- http://www.militaria-collectors.com/...php?id_page=13
Address- and Web page: http://www.militaria-collectors.com/contacts.php
I believe this is the Main Web Site- http://militaria-collectors.com/visu...37afa117411f21
If your anywhere near this location, Andre' may be of help.
I hope this is helpful.
Apologize if it's useless.
Thanks, i know this seller, I am less than an hour away by car.
I did not find the meaning of this stamp in France, I turned to abroad, thinking I had more chances.
It's an Inland S/N: 5 2XX XXX
It's not the picture, trigger housing looks like plum color!
It seems that some Colt 1911 look also like plum color.
Do you have any information on this plum color, how is it made ?
Thank you
