At what range are you supposed to 0 the M 1917? I've searched the Internet and come up with several answers many say the battlesight zero was 300 yd others say 400?

At what range are you supposed to 0 the M 1917? I've searched the Internet and come up with several answers many say the battlesight zero was 300 yd others say 400?
My M1917 manual says 400yds.

The only issue I have is the large aperture and small front sight. It is easy to use a wing as the post by mistake if your head is not where the sun is shining.
