Stretching the spring is a temporary fix at best,once a spring has set it will return to the old position even after stretching.Get a new one they are cheap.
Goo Stop in at Orion 7 and pick one up. Save yourself the trouble. Tony has them.

Springs have a "memory" and you can stretch them to any length you desire, but they will return to whence they came, very soon.
