Help with identification on a Springfield Trap 1873

Hello everyone. I inherited a Springfield 1873 which has been in my family for several generations. I am trying to find out all the info on it that I can. Is it authentic or just a mess. Any info and history would be greatly appreciated.

The star after serial number indicates it was built i 1881-82 period using some parts from turned in weapons such as trigger guard, buttplate, bands, locks. Then with other new parts issued to militia units. The rifle may well have seen service in the Spanish American war. No record for that serial number exists in SRS records.

Keep in mind that TD Carbines did not use a 405 grain bullet with 70 grains of BP in the ammo. They used 55 grains. Trust me. Shooting a 70 grain load hurts. Tired that long ago. Before there was an Internet. I still have stretch marks on my shoulder.
Oh and BP is loaded in grains by volume not mass like smokeless. There are smokeless loads that won't hurt it though. Hodgdon's site under Trap Door loads.
That one is in fairly good condition. Might need a bath, but that's not a big deal

Thanks for the ammo info. I am looking into reloading since the black powder ammo is pretty expensive to buy. I am going to take it to a well known gun smith in my area to have it checked out before investing in the equipment.
