H&R M65 magazine question

Hi all,

I've been on the site for about 16 months but I've only posted a few tiems. Turns out the lockdown gives me a bit of time to take pictures...

I have 4 magazines for my H&R M65. 3 are standard 10 round magazines, 1 is a 5 round magazine.

The one that came with the rifle fits fine (the left most in the photos), the 5-round magazine is a bit too snug. The other two 10 round magazines are so tight that it is very difficult to insert or remove.

They feel tight along the sides (vice front or rear edges).

They are all H&R magazines (ok, I am not sure about the 5-shot mag, I imagine it was cut-down at some point?).

Any suggestions on how to get the magazines to fit a bit better?

Also, the magazine release is worn and leaves the original mag a bit loose. I figure I will try to gently re-spring it (bend it a bit back into shape) to try and tighten it. Failing that, suggestions on where I can find a replacement would be appreciated.

The one came with it is correct and the other three aren't. That's why they don't fit. Close but no cookie. I've lapped magazines like these for fit and have been successful but you need to reblue after. I had five for a Beretta 950b that four fit and one was overtight. I lapped the side with emery paper and worked it until it dropped out and it remained silver until I sold it. Like these, looked good but didn't fit. They were slightly different in construction too... It's usually just a couple of spots you have to reduce in size.

They also made the H&R 800 Lynx Cal .22LR with the same type of mags for instance...

Thanks! I'll try that. If it doesn't work I'm not losing much on the spare mags.
