You really could do something about the dire profile of the cheek rest........!
Looks like you've got one of the NOS Long Branch cheekrests there which used to be floating around in the Canadian ordnance stream as late as the 1990s I'm told. They lack the mysterious and inexplicable front profile of the UK examples - a mystery no one has ever explained to my knowledge what use those concavities were or why the larger one was on the left side to apparently suit the needs of lefties, rather on the right side where it would have made a proper grip on the wrist easier for most shooters! Apparently LB couldn't see either as they dropped them.
If I was you I would do what some users did as early as WWII: move the damn thing back so the front edge is aligned with the end of the grip so you can actually get your hand around the wrist of the butt properly.
Great rescue so far! Congrats OP.
Excellent work! Glad you have been able to save the old girl!
Any chance these would have been marked because mine has no markings at all.
I just may move it back if too if it interferes with my grip, thanks for the tip!

Thank you! I hope I do it the justice it deserves.
Well done. You're making a very commendable job of it.
