how to mount the scope

Fellas,
How do you assemble the scope into the rings of the No3 Mk1T?
They appear to me as to have only one screw up the top to open the rings, to me being un educated and an ex grunt, seems an impossible task to prise open the rings , place the scope in then do it all up. has anyone also got any specs on how to mount the mounts onto a rifle?
I have found some repro mounts ( see attached link) that i am thinking of doing a repro No3T.
Thoughts. comments, experiences all welcome.

DON'T SPREAD THE MOUNTS!!!! You have to strip the scope (if a Patt: 18) install the scope, reassemble the scope, mark witness lines, disassemble the scope, solder the scope in the tube, reblue and reassemble the scope and then set it up. Not a job for the feint of heart...

I agree with Warren 1000%. It's NOT a job for the feint hearted and even the stout hearted sigh at the very thought of stripping and assembling. And don't forget that when you've got it exact for horizon and elevation against the grat/crosswire and rifle - then it's got to be internally stripped again in order to solder the rings to the tube.

sounds like it is going to be too hard for my thumb sized fingers!!

Just a product hint for folk having to assemble or tweak cantankerous machinery.

Loctite 290 "Super Wick In"

Get all your bits aligned and torqued and then apply this stuff to anything you don't want to move. It rapidly "wicks" into the joints and sets firm in a few minutes and VERY firm after a few hours. I have used it to hold parts together during machining operations. One example is when installing AR-15 front sight blocks to new/custom barrels. Get it on and lined up perfectly and apply the 290. Go and do something else for a while and the assembly will be ready for drilling and reaming of the tapered lock-pin holes. Of course absolute cleanliness of the components is essential, as one would expect. Works on No5 flash hiders, bedding screws, etc.

Within reason, the more you use, the harder it is to get it apart; be careful.

I've pulled the pattern 1918 scope apart numerous times Ned...I'll do it for you.

Talking of Australian Patt '18 scopes........... anyone out there in forumland know anyone who will/can re-electrostatically re-charge the etched grat pattern onto the reticle plate?

Have you come across this Warren? Valley snipper?

This is the second one I have seen like this. The first, several years ago, I just replaced the glass reticle plate with a standard steel grat post and crosswire
