Looks nice, wood always looks and feels better than plastic. First photo I ever saw of a M16 type rifle in wood,
came from a captured M16 that the Viet Cong restocked in some kind of wood.
The very Sudanese AR-10 also had a wood butt stock too
Would have taken longer and been more expensive to stock them like that... Looks good.
Yeah the wood would have been much slower to produce. I was not there (GOD BLESS ALL WHO HAVE SERVED) and am only speculating but I think some of the old steel and wood guys might have taken to the rifle easier as a first edition wood then transition to the composites. I know my WWII Veteran Uncles were not impressed with the looks of it and that kind of colored my perception of it for years. IRON WOOD Designs in San Jose does excellent work. I have never had a piece of wood fit perfectly without any adjusting or fitting needed to make it work. It took 9 weeks to get it but it was worth the wait. Turned out to have some very nice figuring that the pictures give no credit.
Maybe some more angles and closer pics would be in order?
I try but am not very talented at setting up the good camera shots but will see what I can do. I really like the warm feeling of the wood in my hands. I told the wife I had to give her a soul. She likes it better than the A2 Stock it came in and now it`s her favorite rifle.... Looks Like the SP-1 in wood I have been wanting to do is in my future. Thanks Honey..
It's a very interesting look, that for sure...
The wood looks lovely, a few more pics would be great if possible.
That is a beauty!
I’ve been knocking around the idea of making my own set forever now. I have the chunks of walnut it’s just a ton of hand work without a CNC machine. It’s a gorgeous look......
Yes Sir, that would be an accomplishment to be proud of to cut out one by hand. You would have ultimate freedom to go free-style though I would love to see a custom 1 of set. The imagination is the limit to what you could do with it especially if you were using laminated wood. The laminates would allow more unusual configurations while holding strength. But all natural wood is King in my book.
