Who are they? Could be Norway, the Germans left tons of equipment when they surrendered, maybe those hats.

MAP figures don't show Austria in the list of M1s given, but do show 25K "Rifles" in 1963.

This legendary WWII rifle was the mainstay of the early Austrian army. A total of 25,811 Garands were transferred in 1955; 25,000 from the departing occupation troops or the Stockpile A system, and the other 811 via an additional buy. Austria designated the Garand as GM1.
They must have had M1s before then, mid 90s I bought ex Austrian Army M2 ammo with date stamps of 1960 and 1961. The Danes must have had M1s about the same time as they too produced M2 ammo in 1961.[COLOR="black"]
