CMP should have ammo too...or you can buy ammo specifically designed and marketed for the M1 rifle. Federal American Eagle Ammo 30-06 Springfield (M1 Garand) 150 Grain
S&G Ammo generally has a much better prices than the CMP, when it's in stock. The drying up of CMP supplies of HXP make it tough to find "well priced" M2 Ball.
Ok, great info, thank you!!!
The PPU 150 grain .30-06 is made to M2 Ball specifications.
I have a similar question as RPM101 except that I have a significant supply of mil-surp .30-06 (US mfg. & Greek, Danish, etc.) Any issues as to why I should not use this ammo now, other than the fact that some of it may be corrosive?
Thanks, --728shooter
If it's M2 compliant..........I'd go ahead and use it. As for corrosive........again, your call. Though remember to clean your rifle. I usually do it, as soon as I get home from the range (takes me 30 mins to get home).
I answered a similar question recently, this way......
Aloha, MarkQuote:
IMHO.....find some HXP M2 (or US Military Surplus M2 if you can find it). Be careful about paying too much for corrosive primed ammo (some years of US M2 is corrosive). Then, as far as I know.....HXP is not corrosive primed.

If all else fails.....
Then......
I'd try the new commercial stuff. .30-06, 150 grain, PPU is normally recommended. But truthfully, I haven't used it (also true for S&B ammo).
Yup......I got plenty of HXP.
As for the.....
Korean ammo......OK, the KA surplus stuff I'd stay away from. PS surplus.....I'd try it, though some lot #s of PS is questionable. So, don't stock up. Unless you've tried it. And, again......be careful about corrosive primed lots. Then, the recent mfn PMC was said to be OK.
Here is my HXP surplus. Shot through my service grade Greek repatriated H&R M1.
