I have been offered one of these rifles which was converted in 7.62x54r to use the ammunition supplied by the Soviet Union in support of the Turks during the Greco-Turkish war (1919-1922). I can find no reference to this modification anywhere on the web.
I'm told that the rifle is in fairly good condition with a serviceable bore and comes complete with it's original bayonet!

I saw this thread, but is doesn't answer my question about the rifle's conversion to 7.62 x 54R Soviet supplied ammunition. Hence posting the question.
Well I looked around too. And couldn't find anything else.
I recall reading and looking at some photos of the Turkish conversion of the Martini to 7,62x54R. I believe this was done in 1908 and a stirrup was added
to the rear of the Martini action for strength. Also the Russian 7,62x54R in use at this time was the old 210 round nose cartridge with a lower chamber

The arm in the OP is a conversion to 7.65x53 Mauser done by the turks for themselves.
Thanks green, it was 7,65mm and done by the Turks, my memory was off but do recall 1908 for some conversions
This arm is well covered in Ed Hull's new book "Peabody Firearms. Mauser type stepped barrel with muzzle sleeve to take 45 cal bayonets, Mauser tangent sight for pointed bullet, Mauser type handguard, new fore end and modified extractor for rimless. Parts made at Steyr and arms converted at Istanbul Arsenal 1910-15.
