Schultz & Larsen M69 Q's....

Good morning all...

As this is on a BYF 40 Mauser 98 Action I thought this best to post up here.

Recently acquired a S & L M69 with Danish Target sights as a shooter grade rifle... lots of dings and some surface rust etc but it has a good throat and bore. As everything is present on the rifle I will restore it.

Question 1 -
This is chambered in 6.5 x 55mm what is the twist rate on the barrel ?

Question 2 -
I live in Canada... Is there a source (Have tried CGN / Numrich / S&L / eBay) for a replacement rear pad? Mines "Tired"

Question 3 -
Are bolts typically force matched on these by S & L during the conversion process?

Question 4 -
Is there a specific action screw Torque I need to adhere to?



The rifle had been last inspected in 2000 and looks to have sat a good number of years with a little surface rust forward of the chamber on the exterior of the barrel and some slight rust on the Bolt handle.
Trigger still breaks cleanly.
Basically it needs a bloody good clean.

I have heard these things are rather accurate so the reason for the twist rate requirement is to not waste time on too heavier round during load development... I like the look of the SMK 142 Grains but happy to go to a lower grain weight if I need to.

1. With a cleaning rod from the breech, make a mark or put a small piece of tape on the rod at the back of the bridge. Make a flag with tape near the back of the rod. Push the rod through the barrel and watch the flag. After the flag has made one revolution make another mark on the rod at the same reference point as your first mark, and measure between the marks. This is the twist rate of the barrel.
(it's easier than I made it sound)
2. You'll just have to source a pad at a sporting goods store and fit it yourself, unless TradeEx might have something. tradeexcanada
3. Yes, it is very uncommon to see a matching bolt/receiver.
4. I can't give you a specific torque number, but don't worry about aligning the capture screw indents if they are present on your floor plate.

As I have an M69 in excellent all-matching condition, I can answer the questions as follows.

Standard 6.5x55 SE. Twist rate is 220mm.

"has a good throat and bore". Caution! S&L barrels are to CIP spec, very close tolerances, and fired cases from a Swedish Mauser will need to be fully recalibrated.

Nearly 50 years after they were made? Unobtainium.

Mine is matching.

No. Screws should be tight, but to clamp, not crush. They are not wheel nuts!

Incorrect, they are VERY accurate!

You don't need to. 140-ish grains is good.
