I try to expose in the clearest amnner the trobuble i encounter dry firing this 1950 Long Branch No.4 mk I*.
a) sometimes trigger jumps first stage, so i have only a second stage. Sometimes...not Always.
b) Bolt is well fitted, checekd using prussia blue. After round is fired ( Always dry firing), bolt has 1-2 mm play fore and after. Why? This thinbg does not occur on my other 5 rifles.
It could well mean that the bolt trackway is well worn Bow. This means that when you take up first trigger pressure, it ulls the bolt down to the lowest part of the bolt-way, But when you release the first pressure, the sear lifts and RAISES up the bolt AND the cocking piece. Do it again and the pull offs are all over the place. Very common in olkd well worn rifles. That's why we test with a BOLT, gauge, inspectors
As it is intermittent, check for a loose front trigger guard screw.
Front trigger guard screw in well in place , the exact number of turn 7 1/4.
So i suppose i could do nothing for my rifle.
It's not the NUMBER of turns that couint Bow, it's the tightness that counts.
There is something you can do mif you have a worn boltway and that is try and fit a new bolt. You can also make sure that the cocking piece is VERY tight on the striker as a loose cocking piece can cause a similar problem.
If you have tried thees little tricks to no avail, come back and I'll tell you something else.................
Ok Peter, front trigger guard screw is tight in place and cocking piece-striker is a tight fit , also. As for instructions contained on your article about Bolt Assembly and fitment
I could buy an unfitted bolt ( it's not cheap) but i haven't one available now. So what i have to do?
