Promo,
With all due respect, who knows what might actually have been done with captured rifles - I think four years is plenty of time for a rifle to have been modified.
Forget about the sporter...
Promo,
This rifle was discussed in depth here:
Austrian sporterized M1903?
Only SS Panzer units were issued the latest and best weapons. Other Waffen SS units often got older or captured weapons,...
Here are a couple of photos of my re-stocked Austrian sporter as might have been made for a Waffen SS sniper (if such a thing existed). The stock is CMP with very light sanding and boiled linseed...
Numrich has similar problems. I bought an upper band/bayonet lug they advertised on Ebay. In email exchanges they represented it as old, milled reproduction made in the USA, available in blue,...
Got the replacement butt swivel and a stacking swivel from the Ebay seller today. Great service, first rate. I haven't even returned the first one yet. Here is a link to his store if anyone is...
The Ebay seller says he has one left that does not have the Y stamp and will send it to me. He has ageed to pay for shipping and refund my return shipping cost. Good guy.
FYI Sarco is now selling...
Thanks all. I bought the piece, along with swivel screws, lower band and band spring, butt plate screws and butt swivel screws from a seller called robertm6921 on Ebay. I have sent him a message...
I have acquired some nice blued harware on E-bay for my CMP stock. The butt swivel is supposedly a milled, unissued piece but it is a tad too small for the stock inlet for it and the holes don't...
OK, now I feel REALLY dumb. I assume the easiest course is to remove the front sight screw and slip the movable stud to the side for removal.
Hmmmm. Well, this little oversight on my part derails plans to put my 03 sporter into a military stock. Not really interested in taking the barrel off to do that. My fault, entirely, but I wish I...
Understood, Chuck. I only posted the link because it has photos of both the 03 and A3 stocks and you can see the cut for the rear handguard ring.
Johnny Peppers, are you saying that the front barrel band can't be slipped over the front sight?
Sorry, my mistake. Learning all the time. You can sort of see the difference here:
Sales - Stock Sets
The 03 and A3 stocks are not the same, the main difference being the inletting for the rear sight base on the 03.
Bump to top for edit above.
Maybe I'll try for an exception as a German Gewehr 249a copy.
Incidentally, the list of allowed scopes for German snipers is very limited. Besides the Zeiss models listed there is also the ZF41. ...
I thought the rules only required an appropriate military rifle with a "vintage scope". I was hoping to put my 03 sporter with period-correct Austrian scope mounted on it in military dress and shoot...
I'm not an expert but it would seem to me that the superiority of a forged and heat-treated receiver over a cast unit in a high-stress, inherently dangerous application of a firearm should be...
Very nice old rifle. And someone just gave it to you?
Glad to see it is mostly unmolested (except for the nice metal finishing). It would be bee-u-tiful in uniform and it wouldn't take much to...
Daveboy, does your stock have hand-guard clips?
Salt Flat, I am trying to keep the stock legal for Vintage Sniper competition should it prove to be a decent shooter. So glass bedding is not an option, I believe. The machining on this stock...
Not the expert here but I believe that the Pederson device, when inserted into a Mark I M1903, allowed the shooter to fire .30 carbine rounds in semi-auto.
Modified NRA sporter?
Checked the stock fitment to my rifle today. There is not enough clearance at the recoil lug mortise for the front guard screw stud to mate up to the recoil lug properly. The screw will not thread...
