I have heard that the Gewehr Mod 98 Mauser cannot use the standard 8mm rounds. Is this true? If so, which round does it use?
I need the two "added" stock rings for an 1891 Argentine Engineers carbine. Anybody know where I might find these?
How do you remove the firing pin protector from a GEW 98 stock???? I can't see any way to turn either end out. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, I appreciate all the help. Turns out the pin was missing, and it was rusted in place. Finally got it out.
Buttplate is off, but I don't see the pin. Is this what it should look like, or is the top of the pin missing?
Thanks! It's the side one. I didn't know about the pin under the buttplate. I really appreciate the help. And, yes, the FR-8 is a modified 43.
How do you remove the rear sling ring on this rifle? It is not a through bolt, and appears to be slighly too deep to just unscrew.
I've been hunting for a full stock for my 1895 Chilean. I found a Swedish M96 stock for sale, and I'm wondering if it will fit. Any help will be appreciated...

How do you remove this stuff??? I tried paint remover, laquer thinner, and sandpaper. The only thing working is the sandpaper, but it's impossible to get it out of all the little crevices. Help!!!!
What tool is used to remove the rear sling swivel and medallion from the VZ? Is there an adjustable "pin wrench" available, or do I need to make a tool for this?
Another dumb question...
Now that the stock is refinished, how do I get the bands on? Seems like I'll need to bend them open a bit, but then it'll be hard to get the screws aligned and started. Any...
Don't know about finding suncorite. What if I just sand it, and spray with Hi Temp Grille paint? Maybe rub a coat of Tru Oil or Tung Oil on, after the paint is good and dry. Think the oil coat would...
The black coating on this rifle is chipped everywhere, and in bad shape. A few questions:
What is this stuff?
How do I get it off? (easier way than sanding?)
Can I still get this coating?
What...
Thanks Peter! No offense taken, since I have to admit, I bubba'd it up for sure! The pin refused to drive out, so I got mad, and drilled it. I'll have to get a refill for my propane torch. Thanks...
The foresight protecter is already off. The sight blade is also off. I want to remove the rest of the front sight, the "body" of it. There was a pin holding it, and that was drilled out, but the rest...
Want to replace front sight on this rifle, but cannot get the front sight off. Had to drill out the pin, since it wouldn't budge. Now, the sight will not budge! Is there a secret to this? Do I need...
Bump it up... Where can I get the proper screws and swivel?
Ordered front and rear barrel bands, but they came with no screws and no sling swivel. Anyone know what size and type screws I should use? Where can I get the proper front sling swivel?
Eventually, I will "restore" it. That's why I was looking for a temporary fix to the "ear" problem. I don't want to cut it, since I will someday do as you suggest. Any suggestions on how to "pretty...
I have a No.4 Mk1 Enfield that has been "sporterized". It now wears a synthetic stock, and has a scope mounted. The scope has the base which doesn't require any drilling, so the hardware has not been...
