Did you remove the trigger guard? The king screw and sleeve bushing effects trigger setup.
Over tightening could have changed the trigger function possibly? Id certainly be looking at that if...

Nice looking project!! I agree the sunshade needs backing off a touch, i have used Birchwood Casey Brass black with good results!
Apply it and rub back gently with very fine wire wool.

If it were me I would get a nice sharp centre punch and put a decent centre dot on the screw head as close to the edge as possible. Then locate the punch at an angle and knock it round.
