To be honest, when it comes to no-smith mounts for the P14/M1917, there's not much to choose between the various offerings available.
I really prefer the Bad Ace offering for the no4/5 though.

The Norma 130gr bullet is one of the best hunting bullets I've tried in my .303 stalking rifle. The only bullet I like even nearly as much is the Hornady 174gr RNSP.

With a serial number that early, I suspect the rifle will be a Mk1, so the wrong rifle to build a No3 Mk1* replica.
As a Mk1, i'd leave it alone. They are less common than Mk1* rifles.

Hi Roger. The last lot of Colron dye I looked at in Homebase was water based. It would appear that the old spirit based stuff is now classed as a naughty substance.

Bear in mind that, other than seeing some use for sniping, the P14 was never front line issue anyway. I'm fairly sure that by the time they got issued to the Home Guard, no one was too bothered...

The German e-bay site can be a good source for correct looking vintage scopes. They're not as cheap as they used to be though, and you do need a windage adjustable rear...
