I would agree and suggest exactly the same. Perhaps a simple glass bead and blue on the gun but a polish and blue so it all matches would be super nice...

There's a whole long thread about rust bluing here and a few members have done it very successfully. That could be a way to go. I'd be surprised if you couldn't find a gunsmith close to you that...
