I'd prefer wood as well, but since that seems to have all but dried up, a composite stock may start looking better as time goes by.
ATI and Ramline currently make sporter stocks for No.1's and No. 4's.
How hard would it be to make full length forends/handguards/proper buttstocks for Lee Enfields?
They could be done in olive...
Thanks for the heads-up, it's much appreciated.

There's a very good sticky over at Canadiangunnutz that might help:

Anyone know where UF56 A43413 (NOT an FTR) fits into this? It's outside the serial range of Frederick's original post...
Or have I misunderstood this post entirely? (Entirely possible!)
Just curious- any idea why your dealer said not to shoot it?
Mayhem, you have it right. Use the O-rings, expect the extra resistance as you close the bolt, subsequently only neck size. It all helps, you're on the right track.
I've been using 2.3gr of W231, under a 160gr .38 Super lead round nose bullet. This is a relatively soft load in my S&W Victory model, should work just fine in the Enfield.
Assuming you can find...
I'm not getting the significance of the Parker Hale Birmingham stamp on the receiver ring. I have a UF 56 No.4 Mk.2 that has this stamp. What does this indicate about my rifle?
Calfed, I note that your Central has "7.62" just under the elevation scale, as does the one I inherited from my Dad. I was under the impression that this indicated it was set up for 7.62x51. (I know...
"Buy the rifle, not the story."
Although, this is the first I heard about a story behind that particular rifle.
As long as we're talking about unpleasant Enfields, surely this one takes the cake:

It's Canadian: 1944 Long Branch. Had it shooting yet?
Thanks to all for the explanations, I'd wondered for a while now.
Thanks Bindi, but that raises another question- "when 7.62 was adopted either buy an Omark or have their No.4 converted"- you can't shoot .303? Sorry for the thread hi-jack- if it's too long to...
There's that phrase again- "range rifle". It sounds like it has some legal meaning, is this part of some classification system in Australia?
Thanks for your reply- today is better, but I tried that Bell test and it wouldn't complete. I've tried other such tests and haven't seen any alarming numbers though. I have what Telus calls "high...
It's faster to reply to this thread than try to start another:

In the current Canadian market I'd say your rifle as it is would go for anywhere from $75 to $150. Maybe $200 on a good day- it does have the desirable windage-adjustable rear sight, and the mag...
Well done sir, please post pictures- lots of them!
Very nice work! ^
Not me. That's quite pricey, even before taxes, and god knows if they can even be exported to Canada. If so, then there's customs and excise on top of that, so… no, thanks.
Thanks Kiwi- your pics show no problems that I can see at the rear end.
How well does your forend fit at the butt socket end? Is it snugged up against the metal there? Pictures of the rear of the forend (while still on the rifle), and pictures of the draws would be...
